As a Win8 user, I updated to Win8.1 months ago and since 8.1.1 is suppose to come out in a few weeks, I ought to tell you what I think of plain ol’ Win8.1 before then.
As I’ve had my computer for a while now (coming up to 3 years), early last year I decided it was time for a bit of a refresh. My computer was running really slowly and poorly for a while back there, so I decided that during my mid-year holidays (last year), I would reinstall Windows 7 on it, and start afresh. However, somewhere along the way my Dad convinced me that I should take the plunge and upgrade to Windows 8. And although that was about 6 months (and a revision of Windows) ago, I’ve been planning on sharing how it went from before I even made the decision to go to Windows 8. So, my dad bought a computer the other day for the household. A new desktop from Aldi. And I know what you’re thinking, “Can’t be any good if it came from Aldi,” but that’s not true, and it’s also not the point. The point is that it came with something few other computers (particularly desktops) come with: A manual. Now, to a computer “expert” like you or me, that may not seem like much but to someone whose never used a computer before or is unfamiliar with how to resolve issues, this is pretty handy. So, a client came in the other day, saying that he couldn’t find a document that he had opened up from the internet, edited and then hit save. He hadn’t chosen where to save it, and had just assumed that it would be in his Documents folder. It wasn’t it was lost in the great labyrinth known as the Temporary Internet Files. I had a lot of trouble finding out how to get to them, even know I had had no trouble finding them previously in XP, because there was no clear, simple how-to on the internet. So here’s one for everyone else.
