So, over a month ago now, Amanda Palmer released her new album, ‘Theatre Is Evil’. It was crowd-funded through Kickstarter, and I was one of the many who funded it. Below, I present to you a review of the album, as well as a number of comments on the whole process. Continue Reading

So, last week I saw the movie “Savages”. As you may realise, this kind of movie is not the type I would normally see, but I’ve decided I might as well review it anyway. Let me state now that I didn’t like it much, and hence there are numerous spoilers to follow. Continue Reading
So, I had been planning on reviewing the episodes of Doctor Who as they were released, but I never got around to it. Instead I’m just going to do them all in one go. Below, I’ve got a little description/review of each episode, as well as a few comments on this series as a whole. Warning, there are spoilers a’plenty below. Continue Reading
So, there’s been Supanova, Armageddon and Oz Comic-Con ( I didn’t get to go to that) this year, and in essence they’re all the same. They’re a weekend-long occasion where a bunch of geeky guys and gals gather together, often in costume, to share their love of comics, anime, TV shows, movies and general pop culture. It’s a commercial event, so there’s always tonnes of stuff to buy, but also things to see and do. In short, it’s great fun. Yesterday I went to the Armageddon Expo, a pop culture and comic convention, with the same friends that came to Supanova. And following the trend, it was quite similar in some way to Supanova, but also quite different. Continue Reading

So, last night I saw the new movie Looper, with a few of my friends. A particular friend of mine and I have always been fascinated in time travel and the possibility of such, so the fact that this movie centres around time travel had us interested. So we went and saw it, and now I have a review for you. As usual, I’ll try and keep it spoiler free. Continue Reading

So, apparently last winter, Clare Bowditch decided that she was going to be happy. Since then, she’s written and released an album about it, and that makes me happy… In case you’ve never heard of her, Clare Bowditch is an Australian singer /songwriter of songs that always have a strong story to them, who’s also done things like interview the Prime Minister Julia Gillard on the side.
I bought the album through her website, and although it arrived ~5 days after it was released, it was a signed copy. It’s kind of strange the way they did it. The CD case was all sealed, but it came with another liner notes booklet, loose, that was signed. Below, I have reviewed the whole of “The Winter I Chose Happiness”, track-by-track in addition to as a whole.
So, if you haven’t been watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, this post isn’t going to make much sense to you. But you can fix that by simply devoting the time to watching all (so far) 43 videos. I better give you some context: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a modern adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, told primarily through the medium of YouTube vlogs (video blogs), as well as though an extensive deluge of various other social media posts, predominantly Tumblr. The other social media is used to explore the story from the point of view of many other characters, some of which are minor in the original narrative.
So, a few days ago I went and saw the Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban) movie with a few friends. I’m a BIG fan of the video game series, so I was quite excited and looking forward to seeing what they did with it. And I wasn’t disappointed.
** As usual, this review should be spoiler free. But if you’ve already played the games, you already know most of what’s going to happen.** Continue Reading
So, this week I finally did what most true Nerdfighters and John Green fans did a few months ago: finish The Fault In Our Stars, a.k.a. TFIOS. The worst thing about this was I was one of the 150,000 people that got a preordered, and thus signed, copy of TFIOS so I’ve had absolutely no excuse for not having finished it much earlier. Although, maybe that’s a reflection on the book. If you’d like to read a proper review, read on…

So, I saw the new reboot of the Spider-Man movies known as “The Amazing Spider-Man” today, and it was pretty good. Although, to a web-head like me (you know what I mean, true believers!), some of it just didn’t ring true. So to cover both, today my review comes to you in two parts: Part 1 – review without spoilers, Part 2 – nit-picking with spoilers. Continue Reading
