Because it was Australia Day yesterday, and I’ve been busy this week and hadn’t written a blog post yet, I went back and read what I wrote this time last year. And other than being amazed at how well written it was, I was shocked by how disconnected I had become with its themes over the course of a year.
Because you end up with all sorts of problems if you don’t know what you’re doing. “You shouldn’t use technology that you don’t understand.” At first glance, this stance doesn’t sound unreasonable. In fact, it seems totally logical. How can you use something if you don’t understand it? However, when you start to think about what it is to “understand” something, you realise that it’s not that simple. Continue Reading
Because I successfully started every post from last year with “So,” I’ve decided to take up this challenge again and start every post this year with “Because…”. I think this will be a bit more challenging but constructive than “So”, because it will force me to answer the unasked question of “Why?”. Anyway, getting to what this post is really about…
I saw Wreck It Ralph the other day, which I’ve been wanting to see ever since I heard about it. And while it was a good movie, I don’t think it lived up to all my expectations. Continue Reading
So, it’s that last day of 2012, and the end of my self-challenge to do a blog every week. A challenge I’m happy to say I achieved. And what a glorious journey it’s been. I know all about it, but I thought you might want to know a bit of the behind-the-scenes stuff. Continue Reading
So, yesterday I went with some friends to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and I enjoyed it. I’d already heard a few reviews of it that were all pretty positive, but they were also a bit fanboy-ish. Now, it needs to be said that I’m totally new to The Lord of The Rings universe; I haven’t read any of the books, seen any of the movies, or played any of the games. I’ve only picked up bits and pieces off friends and pop references. The other disclaimer I have to make before reviewing this movie is that we saw it in normal 2D. It wasn’t HFR (high frame rate) or 3D, or any of that, however I still have a thing or two to say about that. Continue Reading

A friendly pair of machines
So, this week was the last week of my traineeship. It’s all over now. This year really has been such a good experience, in so many ways. Not only did I get to try out working in IT, but I got practical experience in a range of areas, I got a qualification to go with it, and I had a generally good time doing it. I’m really happy that I did it and proud that I got through the Cert 3, and I think what I’ve learnt this year will serve me well going into the future.

So, for most of this year, I’ve had an iPad on loan from the House, so that I could share in the iPad experience, and better support them. Now that the year, and my traineeship, is nearly over, I have to hand it back and I’m left with a few questions: Was the iPad actually any good? Did I actually use it? Am I going to miss it? Do I want to buy one, now that I’m not going to have this one anymore? Continue Reading

So, all year, I’ve been dealing with Dell; their computers, their Pro Support, their technicians. And from my experience, I’ve learnt many things, so I’m going to share with you as many of the tips and tricks that I’ve picked up as I can.
So, it nearly the end of the year, which means I’ve nearly done a whole year of blogs. So far, it’s been really interesting, and I hope everyone who have been reading them have enjoyed them. I’ve learnt a few things doing this, but now I’ve also got a few questions for you. If possible, could you please fill out the survey below. It’s only 6 questions long!
P.S. This is not my blog post for this week; I haven’t written it yet, but that’ll go up later this week.
DFTBA,
